Rick Devine, Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Rick is a co-founder and the managing partner of Devine Capital Partners. His portfolio of work reads like a who's who of the business technology sector, having placed senior executives at Amazon.com, Microsoft, Siebel Systems, SAP America, Cadence, BEA Systems, Apple Computer, Global Crossing, Ingres and more. And corporate America has noticed; in the summer of 2000 he was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal's Marketplace section.

Rick's 20+ years of experience encompasses nearly every aspect of executive recruiting. In 1984 he founded Devine and Virnig, where more than 100 management searches for venture backed start-up companies in Silicon Valley can be credited to his efforts. Even today, that firm is considered to be among the premier boutique search firms in the area.

With an eye on winning searches from the biggest names in technology, Rick joined Heidrick & Struggles more than a decade later as a partner in the firm’s world-renowned Menlo Park office. There he conducted searches for Steve Jobs, Tom Siebel, Steve Ballmer, Jeff Bezos and many other industry leaders. Quickly becoming recognized as one of the most successful partners in the firm, Rick recruited many high profile executives including Tim Cook, current COO of Apple Computer, Dave Wickersham, current COO of Seagate and Bob Annunziata, former President of AT&T Business to Global Crossing as CEO.

In 1999 Rick took on the challenge of building an in-house recruiting capability within Internet Capital Group. Joining the company pre-IPO as managing director of management recruiting, he built one of the largest internal executive recruiting organizations in private equity with a staff of 40 search professionals in the United States, Europe and Asia. He also saw the company emerge as the world’s largest investment firm focused exclusively on the business-to-business Internet market. When ICG went public in August 1999, it employed more than 200 professionals and realized a market valuation of more than $50 billion at its peak.

Devine Capital Partners is the culmination of Rick’s experience serving public technology companies, venture capital and private equity-backed ventures. Since co-founding the firm in 2001, he has quickly established it as a leading provider of executive recruiting capability to the private equity community, successfully completing searches for Garnett & Helfrich Capital, Vector Capital, Thoma Cressey Bravo, Silverlake Partners, TPG, TA Associates, TCV and others. Rick has completed numerous Board of Director and CEO searches but prides himself on long term relationships and building high performance management teams.

Rick attended Lehigh University on a track scholarship, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1980. He is an avid rower and lives with his wife and two children on a ranch in Santa Cruz, California.
